Fuel prices hit historic high: Petrol at 87.39/L in Mumbai, 79.99/L in Delhi
Fuel prices across India shot to record high on Friday as the petrol prices were hiked by 55 paise in the business capital of India, Mumbai and petrol prices rose by 48 paise. The petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 48 paise and 52 paise respectively in the national capital.
In the national capital, petrol is selling at Rs 79.99 per litre, while diesel is priced at 72.07 litre. In Mumbai, Petrol is now at Rs 87.39 per litre while the diesel price marks at Rs 76.51 per litre, as per a notification by the Indian Oil Corporation.

While the situation in Chennai is even worse as the petrol price on Friday touched Rs 83.13 per litre and diesel Rs 76.17 per litre. Whereas in Kolkata the petrol and diesel prices are at Rs 82.88 and 74.92 per litre respectively.

"There is no straight line movement in global crude oil prices. In April and May, there was a lot of pressure. In June, they came down. In July, they came down and in August, there is again (an upward) movement. In last two days, there has been some moderation. For six days before that, there was again," Finance Minister Arun Jaitely had said on Wednesday when asked about why the Centre is maintaining silence over the rise in fuel prices across the country.
