INX Media case: Top Court Allows P Chidambaram To Withdraw His Plea Challenging CBI Arrest
The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed former union minister P Chidambaram to withdraw his plea against non-bailable warrant and remand orders of the trial court in the INX Media corruption case lodged by the CBI. A bench of Justices R Banumathi and A S Bopanna passed the order after senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Chidambaram, said they have decided to unconditionally withdraw the petition. Now the action shift to Rouse Avenue Court. Chidambaram will be produced in Rouse Avenue Court later today. According to rules, CBI cannot demand further custody. In case, Chidambaram doesn’t get interim bail, he will have to go to jail. After Supreme Court’s clear cut outlook, there are only two options for the former Union Minister – ED’s custody or Tihar Jail.
