Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls: Congress registers massive win clinching 62 wards, BJP-SAD alliance reduced to 21
While The Congress Staged A Massive Comeback By Winning Two-thirds Of The Total Seats, The SAD-BJP Combine Was Reduced To Merely 21 Wards. SAD And BJP Were Relegated To The Second And Third Position, With 11 And 10 Wards, Respectively.
The Congress continued its winning streak in the political landscape of Punjab by sweeping the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls. The grand old party of India won 62 of the 95 wards and wrestled power from the ruling BJP-SAD alliance.
While the Congress staged a massive comeback by winning two-thirds of the total seats, the SAD-BJP combine was reduced to merely 21 wards. SAD and BJP were relegated to the second and third position, with 11 and 10 wards, respectively.
The voting, which was held on Saturday, saw clashes between the Congress and Opposition party workers amid allegations of booth capturing. As many as 494 candidates were in the fray for a total of 95 wards.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Election Commission ordered repolling in two booths of wards number 44 on account of bogus voting and booth capturing. Re-polling was held in booth numbers 2 and 3 of ward number 44 from 8 am to 4 pm Monday.
