MCD poll debacle: Rahul Gandhi asks Ajay Maken, PC Chako to continue as DPCC chief, Delhi in-charge respectively, say sources
Sources In The Party Said That Both The Leaders Reiterated, Saying That They Do Not Want To Continue On Their Post.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has asked party leaders Ajay Maken and PC Chako to continue their services as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president and Delhi party in-charge respectively if sources are to be believed.
Maken and Chacko had offered their resignation after witnessing a disaster in MCD polls.
Sources in the party said that both the leaders reiterated, saying that they do not want to continue on their post. It is said that a meeting has been scheduled for the next week in this regard.
On Wednesday, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken and Congress' in-charge of Delhi affairs P C Chacko had resigned from their posts, owning responsibility for the party's dismal show in the MCD polls despite being at the helm of affairs for over two years.
Chacko had sent his resignation to party president SoniaGandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi. Maken had said he will not take up any post in the party for a year and will perform his duty as an ordinary worker, while Chacko called for introspection to ascertain the reasons for its defeat in Delhi and redefine its future strategy.
"As President of Delhi Congress, I take moral responsibility and offer to resign from my post. I have decided to resign from my post," Maken had said.
He had also said, "It is a reasonable revival of the Congress but I had hoped for something better than this. I had expected to perform a little better". Chacko on his part, when asked, had told, "Failure is failure and we must take responsibility".
