Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on the importance of ‘Jal Shakti’ on the special occasion of World Water Day on Thursday, stating when people save water, cities, villages and farmers benefit ‘tremendously’.

World Water Day is observed every year on March 22 to signify the importance of the power of water and ensure commitment towards water conservation. The theme for World Water Day 2018 is ‘Nature for Water’, exploring natural solutions to the water challenges the world is facing today.

Modi took to Twitter early in the day to create awareness on water conservation.

“When water is conserved, our cities, villages and hardworking farmers benefit tremendously,” Modi tweeted.

Following the UN declaration of the World Water Day, the world over has been observing the day to remind people about conserving water — one of the most important elements that sustains life on the planet.

I was in Cape Town just a few months ago and could clearly see that the water we take for granted isn’t infinitely available. Let’s all respect the importance of water and understand how we can conserve it and make a difference #WorldWaterDay
