Telangana student killed in US shooting, Sushma Swaraj assures help to family
External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday expressed her condolences to the family of Sharath Koppu, an Indian student who was killed in a shooting at Kansas City of the United States and assured all assistance in bringing his mortal remains to the country.
“Kansas incident — My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We will follow this up with the Police and provide all assistance to the family,” Swaraj tweeted.
Koppu, who hailed from Warangal district of Telangana, was shot in the back during an attempted robbery at a restaurant in Kansas City where he worked part-time. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased was working in Hyderabad as an engineer and had recently moved to the USA for pursuing his masters in software engineering at the University of Missouri.

Officials of the Consulate General of India in Chicago rushed to the Kansas City where Koppu was killed. The Consulate General informed that they were in touch with his family and providing all the required assistance.
“An Indian student became a victim of shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. We r in contact with his family & police. We will provide all assistance. Our officers are also on the way to Kansas City (sic),” the Consulate General of India in Chicago had tweeted on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the 26-year-old student resorted to crowdfunding to bring his body back to India.
The cousin of the victim created a GoFundMe account on Saturday to raise the funds required to send the body back to India. The family raised USD 25,000 in just three hours via the GoFundMe crowdfunding program.
