Violence erupts in BHU campus after Varanasi Police arrests student leader
The Arrested Student Leader Has Been Identified As Ashutosh. According To Varanasi Police, Ashutosh Along With Few Other Students For Creating Ruckus On Friday Evening During A Pre-planned Cultural Evening.
Students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Wednesday went on a rampage and set fire to varsity properties and vandalised vehicles after a student leader was arrested by Uttar Police.
According to reports, the protesters demanding immediate release of student leader Ashutosh even chased the chief proctor of the varsity, who tried to calm the agitators.
Police said, most of the protesters have alliance with student organisation Samajwadi Yuvjan.
“Supporters of Ashutosh set several varsity properties in fire, vandalised private vehicles and clashed with police team trying to prevent further ruckus by the students,” said a senior police officer.
Chief Proctor Royana Singh told the media, “Ashutosh is pursuing Masters in Arts from the college. Several FIRs have been lodged against him for various incidents that have occured in the university campus in the last few months.”
A senior police officer said, “Earlier this month, an FIR was lodged against Ashutosh for creating ruckus during an musical evening program in IIT campus. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against him.”
