Champions Trophy 2017: Sachin Tendulkar is a good bloke, we enjoyed our duels, says Glenn Mcgrath
Glenn Mcgrath Went Into Nostalgic Mode As He Remembered The Intense Battle With Iconic Indian Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar In The Majestic Quarterfinal Clash In The ICC Knock-out Tournament Between India And Australia In Nairobi, 2000.
Australia’s legendary paceman Glenn Mcgrath has some mixed memories regarding the Champions Trophy. In its early years, the competition was known as ICC Knock-out tournament and seemed to be jinxed for Australia. The Kangaroos lost several close encounters in the tournament before finally breaking the barrier.
Mcgrath nicknamed ‘The Pigeon’ went into nostalgic mode as he remembered the majestic quarterfinal clash between India and Australia in Nairobi, 2000. He revealed the intense battle with iconic Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and said that their was some sledging between the two giants of the game.
Sachin, however, came out on top of the game as he made a quick 30 odd runs which ultimately helped India in winning the match by 20 runs. Known for his consistency as a paceman and miserly economy rate, Mcgrath went for 61 runs in his nine overs without picking a wicket.
The battle was intense when McGrath dueled it out with Tendulkar or for that matter Brian Lara. “Sachin is a good bloke, we enjoyed our duels,” said McGrath.
The Aussie pace legend plans to see the Tendulkar’s biopic presently running in the cinema houses.
Australia finally conquered the Champions Trophy in India as they dismissed West Indies for 138 runs and easily romped to victory. Mcgrath too played his part well and got two crucial wickets, including the prized one of Brian Lara.
