Steve Smith and David Warner have reportedly been banned for one year as per latest reports, ruling them out of the home series against India, while Cameron Bancroft was handed a nine-month suspension as Cricket Australia came down heavily on the errant trio which disgraced itself in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.
Amid the ball-tampering case, Australian batsman David Warner stepped down from the captainship of Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. A new captain for the franchise is to be announced soon
"In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of SunRisers Hyderabad. The new captain of the Team will be announced shortly," Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO K Shanmugam said in a tweet posted by the team's official handle.
Warner, along with the Australian skipper Steve Smith and opener Cameron Bancroft came in the line of fire due to the scandal which broke out during the third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.Â
Bancroft was caught on camera while using a yellow sand paper to tamper the ball.
The trio was ordered to return home by Cricket Australia after a preliminary inquiry, which cleared coach Darren Lehmann of any involvement.
The 31-year-old Warner also reportedly irked the entire Australian dressing room by partying after the scandal.
Meanwhile, Steve Smith had also stepped down as captain of Rajasthan Royals due to the incident for which he was banned for one Test by the ICC.
However, Smith has been replaced by Ajinkya Rahane as Royals skipper. The 11th season of Indian Premier League is scheduled to commence from April 7.
