Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq began his England tour with a bang. The right handed middle-order batsman scored a century on day one of the first Test against England at the Lord’s cricket ground. It was Misbah’s 10th century but on the way became the oldest cricketer to hit a Test century as captain.
The Pakistan skipper broke the record of former Australian all-rounder Bob Simpson, who scored a century at the age of 41 years and 359 days, in the 1977-78 season.
At 46 years and 82 days, Englishman Jack Hobbs is still the oldest player to score a Test century, with Misbah-ul-Haq now occupying the sixth spot on the list.
Pakistan were in a spot of bother at 77 for three when Misbah-ul-Haq walked into bat and his gritty knock helped steady the ship. He scored 114 runs off 199 balls with 18 boundaries.
