SC asks former BCCI President Anurag Thakur to tender unconditional apology
The Supreme Court Has Also Asked Thakur To Ensure His Presence Before It On The Next Date Of Hearing In The Perjury Proceedings Against Him Which Is July 14.
The Supreme Court of India has on Friday rejected the apology filed by BJP MP and former BCCI President Anurag Thakur in connection with the case of filing a false affidavit in SC. The top court has also asked Thakur to file a fresh affidavit with an unconditional apology.
“We are not happy with the affidavit of apology; it has to be categorical,” said Justice Dipak Misra.
The apex court has now given Thakur a July 12 deadline to file a fresh affidavit and furnishing unconditional and unqualified apology.
The Supreme Court has also asked Thakur to ensure his presence before it on the next date of hearing in the perjury proceedings against him which is July 14.
Last year, Anurag Thakur filed a fresh affidavit in the apex court stating that he had not sought any letter from the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking autonomy.
The apex court while issuing the show cause notice to Thakur had said, “the conduct of the President of BCCI in seeking a letter from the President of ICC in August 2016, after the final judgement and Order of this Court, is nothing but an attempt on the part of the head of BCCI to evade complying, with the Order of this Court.”
Anurag Thakur along with Ajay Shirke were removed from their positions as BCCI president and secretary respectively for not following Supreme Court’s guidelines on the implementation of the Lodha committee reforms.
