It’s been a great day for Pakistan veteran batsman Younis Khan, as he has surpassed great Javed Miandad to become the highest Test scorer of the country. While, playing in the first Test against England at Abu Dhabi, the middle order batsman heaped a maximum against Moeen Ali to achieve the feat.
Before the first Test Khan needed just 19 more runs to pass Miandad's tally of 8,832 runs scored in 124 matches. Khan played 101 Test matches, with a record of 30 centuries.
Like Miandad, 39 years Khan hit a hundred on debut which came against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi in 2000.
Last year, he was instrumental in defeating Australia and plundered 468 runs in the Test series.
The veteran batsman showed great skills and smashed a brilliant unbeaten 171 in Pakistan's last Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in July. The middle order batsman snatched a win from the jaws of defeat.
The innings helped Pakistan to chase down their highest target of 377 to win a Test. In the process he also became the highest scorer for Pakistan in the fourth innings.
That ton was also Younis's fifth in a fourth innings of a Test, a new record in the history of the game, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Graeme Smith who have scored four each.
