The Indian golf union (IGU) will send a six-member squad for the ninth Faldo series Asia grand final in China.
The squad consists of IGU amateur tour’s second-ranked Viraj Madappa, who will compete in the under-18 category, number three Aman Raj (under-21) and number two on IGU’s junior order of merit Shubham Narain (Under-16).
Among the girls, there will be Delhi’s Tvesa Malik (U-21), Gurgaon’s Nishtha Madan (U-18) and Gaurika Bishnoi (U-16).
All six players have qualified to play in this event after winning an Indian Golf Union tour event in their respective categories in December 2014.
The R&A world amateur golf ranking event will take place at the Nick Faldo-designed course at Mission Hills, Guangdong, China from tomorrow which is about an hour away from Hong Kong and will see participation of 90 players from 18 nations.
The Indian Golf Union teams have a fine Record at Nick Faldo Asia grand final with Rashid Khan winning the Faldo title in 2007 and 2009 while Chandigarh’s pro Abhijit Singh Chadha won in 2011.
The Grand Final will be played over 54 holes (with no cut) and the format will be gross stroke-play. The trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner-up in each category.
The overall winner from the boys’ category will be granted an exemption into an Asian Tour event while the girls’ winner will be given a start in a Ladies European Tour event.
Both will also earn themselves an overseas trip to compete in the Faldo Series Europe Grand final.
