Little fancied archer Atanu Das stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the individual event while the men’s hockey team stood up to the challenge posed by Argentina to virtually sew up a last-eight spot in the Olympic Games on Tuesday. In men’s hockey, India survived a final quarter onslaught from Argentina for a nail-biting 2-1 win that enhanced their quarter-final chances.  Former Asian Games gold medallist Vikas Krishan (75kg) gave a perfect start to India's boxing campaign in the Rio Olympics 2016, beating American greenhorn Charles Conwell to enter the pre-quarterfinals.

Indian rower Dattu Baban Bhokanal finished fourth in the quarter-finals of the men'ssingle sculls to be out of medal reckoning in the Rio Olympic Games here on Tuesday.

Shooter Heena Sidhu, from whom a lot was expected in the run-up to the ongoing Olympic Games, put up yet another flop show to finish a distant 20th in the 25m pistol event for women.
