Saina Nehwal defeats Sonnia Chea in a three-set slugfest to march into the quarterfinals of the women's singles event at the Australian Open. Nehwal defeated her opponent 21-15 20-22 21-14. Nehwal won the first game with relative ease but the Malaysian came back strongly to edge the Indian in the second game.
The Indian shuttler held her nerves in the deciding game to clinch the third and deciding game. Saina Nehwal became the fourth Indian shuttler in the Australia Superseries quarter-finals after Kidambi Srikanth, Sai Praneeth and PV Sindhu booked their berths earlier on Thursday.
