Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Akhilesh Das Gupta today announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh each to World No. 2 Saina Nehwal and Commonwealth Games champion P Kashyap for their impressive performance on the international stage.
Both Saina and Kashyap had won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in January at Lucknow and the former even became the first Indian woman to reach the finals of the All England Superseries Premier earlier this month.
“It has been my policy to reward players who are performing exceptionally well on the international circuit with handsome financial gains as the players are making the country proud with their title triumphs,” said Das Gupta.
“Both Saina and Kashyap had won the gold medal in the Syed Modi GP gold event. Saina has even reached number 2 ranking in the world,” he added.
Das Gupta had announced a similar cash prize for Kidambi Srikanth for his Swiss Open triumph last Sunday.
