Palani of Q-Lounge on Monday defeated Sajiv Mathew (Towers Club) by three frames to two in the round of 64 in the Q-Lounge All-India open snooker championship 2019 here. A match of fluctuating fortunes saw Palani winning the first and third frames and surrendering the second and fourth before easing home in the decider to set up a clash with the India no.2 Laxman Rawat. Palani won 24-49, 73-21, 66-15, 19-68, 60-27.
In other close matches, Yazer of Q-Ball City beat Sasi Kumar (TNBSA) 3-2 while Vinay Kothari (SVS Club) beat Johny of Cue Zone by a similar margin.
Earlier in the tournament, Mithun of Kerala beat Vadivel (Impact) by three frames to one in a fifth round match of the Q-Lounge all-India snooker tournament. In other matches, Johny of Cue Zone beat Aadesh Kothari 3-1 and Andhra cueist M D Sameer edged out Santhosh of Coimbatore by three frames to two.
R Anupama, bronze medalist at World Under-16 Women Snooker Championship last year, outplayed Sheikh Sohail of Andhra by three frames to nil in a fourth-round match in the Q-Lounge All-India Open Snooker Championship 2019. Chennai cueist Anupama with a good mix of safety play and potting started aggregating points to put pressure on Nellore-based Sohail. Having won the first two frames handily, Anupama hit top form in the third and scored more points to seal an easy win.
