Google dedicates doodle to classical dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai on her 100th birth anniversary

Google on Friday dedicated a doodle to noted classical dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai on her 100th birth anniversary. The talented artist, who left for her heavenly abode on January 21, 2016, was the recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Mrinalini founded the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts and trained more than 18,000 students in Kathakali and Bharatanatyam. In the Google doodle picture, the dancing diva can be seen in her signature parasol in the auditorium of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. Her students can also be seen dancing on the stage.
Born in Kerala, the eminent danseuse spent her early years in Switzerland. Mrinalini Sarabhai, who was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1994, received education at Shantiniketan under the able guidance of Rabindranath Tagore.
The renowned dancer studied both the classical forms of Kathakali and Bharatanatyam at a young age. Sarabhai choreographed over three hundred dance dramas and wrote several plays, novels and stories for children.
