This Move Will Now Benefit More People To See Local News In Their News Feed Which Will Help Them Discover What Is Happening In Their Area And Has A Direct Impact On Them.
Social media platform Facebook on Monday announced that it has expanded the local news feature on its News Feed to reach an audience in the whole worldwide.
This move will now benefit more people to see local news in their News Feed which will help them discover what is happening in their area and has a direct impact on them.
The development comes months after the social media platform rolled out the update of local news on News Feed in the US mainly to prioritise the local news.
Alex Hardiman, Head of News Product, along with Campbell Brown, Head of News Partnerships, wrote in a blog post, “Today, we are expanding that update to people in all countries, in all languages. Now, people around the world will see more news on Facebook from local sources covering their current city and other cities they may care about.”

This developmental move will help the local publishers to cover nearby cities reach more number of audience. The executives wrote, “We'll consider a publisher as local to multiple cities if the people in those areas are more likely, than the people outside of those cities, to read articles from the publisher's domain.”
The company said, “We would continue working to prioritise high-quality news in News Feed, including news from sources that are broadly trusted, informative, and relevant to the local communities.”
