A Forged Version Of Facebook-owned WhatsApp Has Been Maliciously Doing Rounds On Google Play Store As 'Update WhatsApp Messenger' With Developer Name As 'WhatsApp Inc*'.
A forged version of Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been maliciously doing rounds on Google Play Store as "Update WhatsApp Messenger" with developer name as 'WhatsApp Inc*'.
As per the reports by IANS, the app was downloaded up to 5,000 times and another version which shared a similar name had a million downloads.
The malicious software was discovered by the popular WhatsApp change tracking website WABetaInfo, via Twitter user @MujtabaMHaq, according to the reports from the IB Times.
WhatsApp Business that is yet to launch as a standalone service also carries a fake version that has many complaints from several users in the comment section.

"DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS APP! IT'S FAKE! WhatsApp Business is not officially available yet for all", the WABetaInfo social media account tweeted to its 30,000 followers.
"Check only official channels to download WhatsApp Business in future.", it added.
