Citizenship Bill Passed In Rajya Sabha With 125 Votes In Favour

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 was cleared by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday after a marathon eight-hour debate. Rajya Sabha passed the bill with 125 votes in favour and 99 against it. Since it has already been cleared by the Lok Sabha, the amendment will head for President's nod before becoming law. Before the voting on the bill, MPs rejected several amendments and motions including one to send the bill to the Select Committee of the Upper House. A Select Committee is a panel comprising members of a House where it is formed and deals with a specific subject. The motion was rejected after 124 members against it while 99 voted in favour of the motion.
