Arunachal Pradesh: Professor Saket Kushwaha appointed new VC of Rajiv Gandhi University
The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has appointed Professor Saket Kushwaha of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) as the new Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University at Rono Hills, near Itanagar.
The ministry in an order issued on Monday appointed Kushwaha as the VC of the state’s lone Central University for a period of five years, officials said.
The university was without a vice chancellor for several months with the students of the varsity along with other students’ bodies of the state led by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) demanding the state government to pursue the Centre for appointment of a regular VC for the institute.
Meanwhile, the AAPSU has welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for taking prompt action in apprising the Union HRD ministry of the matter of appointing a VC at the university.
“The appointment of the new VC, who is an experienced and brilliant academician, would usher in a new era of academic excellence in the lone institute of higher education of the state,” the AAPSU said.
