The fight between the BCCI and government has intensified over the shifting of Indian Premier League matches out of Maharashtra, which is going under serious drought. Not only Maharashtra, thousands of people in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and many other parts of India suffering from drought. The Devendra Fadnavis government said the state is ready to bear the losses.
For many people who are struggling, the move might be very good but the government should explain how displacing the IPL matches will solve the problem of parched Maharashtra. The BCCI has assured to use potable water for drenching the pitch and ground. The Central and state government should think something out of the box like levying water tax as IPL matches attract huge amount of crowd.
The cash-rich league attracts record crowds and it would be worthwhile to impose a water tax.
The message should be clear, if you want to enjoy cricket, then pay for water also.
With many parts of the state under drought, will the city stop doing parties, weddings and other luxurious stuff. Shifting IPL matches will not solve the issue.
The people is five star will waste water in different ways, thousand gallons are split though leaks in pipeline, many wasted in sugarcane farming and the count is endless.
For us cricket is not above our people who are struggling for every drop of water. The government should think other ideas to resolve the issue than shifting IPL matches.
