Defending champions and Seven-time title holder India has defeated arch-rivals Iran by 38-29 to emerge victorious in the mega final of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup played in Ahmedabad.
Winning their third title on the trot, India pulled up a brilliant comeback after being down by 5 points at 13-18 when the clock ticked half-time. Iran team lead by Meraj Sheykh gave a tough fight to the Indian team. It was in the final crucial moments when Indian players showed some great performance.
Star raider Ajay Thakur emerged as the key player for the team as he guided team to this scintillating win with his crucial 12 points. Although Inranian skipper Meraj Sheykh gave a tough fight with his 5 points, but couldn't take his team to be at the winning side.
At the start of the match it was a tough fight as both the team looked to defend rather than going foe attack. At one point it remained 7-7 showing how tight the game progressed. It was then the Iran team bounced back by gaining some quick points. But the Iran team then failed to hold on the lead and went all out twice during the match to give India the decisive lead.
The title decider also proved India's dominance and authority over the game globally, winning all the titles in the history in the tournament.
Union sports Minister Vijay Goel was also present to watch the match, at the Trans Stadia by Arena stadium.
