The Sports Ministry on Monday recommended Indian shuttler PV Sindhu's name for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. Sindhu has risen to the number two spot in the women's singles rankings after her stupendous run in the World Championships in Glasgow in August.
The Rio Olympic silver medalist went down fighting to Japanese shuttler Nozomi Okuhara in the title clash, settling for silver. Sindhu has been in scintillating form in the 2017 season winning the Indian Open Super Series and the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold title.
PV Sindhu beat her arch-rival Nozomi Okuhara in the finals of the Korea Open Super Series. Sindhu avenged her loss to the Japanese shuttler in the 2017 BWF World championships at Glasgow in August. The Sports Ministry had recommended Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the Padma Bhushan.

Sindhu joins the elite club comprising of Saina Nehwal and Pullela Gopichand. In March 2015, Sindhu was conferred India’s fourth highest civilian honour – Padma Shri.
